White to run for Council's North Shore/Central Oahu seat
John White, former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono, announced Tuesday he is running for the City Council's 2nd District seat.
The area encompasses Mililani Mauka, Wahiawa, the North Shore, Kahalu'u and 'Ahuimanu. It is currently held by Donovan Dela Cruz, who is completing his eighth straight year on the council and therefore cannot seek a third consecutive term.

Honolulu Council bill bans shark tours
The Honolulu City Council on Friday introduced a bill to ban shark tour operations.
Bill 67 calls for penalizing violators up to $1,000, up to one year in jail, or both.
...Currently, at least two shark tour operations — North Shore Shark Adventures and Hawaii Shark Encounters — operate on Oahu’s North Shore, where customers view sharks from a submerged cage.
